Global climate change has emerged as one of the most important environmental, economic and social issues of our day. As a leader in our industry, PG&E is meeting the challenge head on.

This document explains our view of the challenge, outlines the actions we are taking now, and recommends policies that offer the basis for long-term solutions. This short whitepaper provides an overview of the scientific and economic issues that are central to the current conversation on climate change, presented for policymakers and business leaders.

We have taken a firm stand in favor of mandatory action to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions responsible for warming, and we have backed clear goals and timetables. For example, we are a founding member of both the U.S. Climate Action Partnership, a coalition of leading businesses and environmental organizations, and the Clean Energy Group, a coalition of environmentally progressive energy companies. Both organizations are working to advance a mandatory, market-based national climate change program.

PG&E’s emissions are already among the lowest in the industry. Today, we are working on many fronts to reduce them even further. Our leadership in areas like energy efficiency and renewable power will continue to directly support this objective.
